Young Parents Program The Young Parent Program (YPP) is operated by the YMCA of Okanagan in partnership with Central Okanagan Public Schools and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
At the Young Parents Program students are supported and encouraged to continue their educational goals.
The priority is for children of young parents, 20 years and younger, who are attending any school within the Central Okanagan Public Schools district, working towards completion on high school. If space is available, young parents who are continuing their education at a post-secondary school within the area and community parents are also eligible.
Our mission is to:
1. To support young parents in continuing their education
2. To provide safe, affordable, quality care to children
3. To provide an environment where parents can further develop their parenting and life skills
YMCA Playing to Learn Child Care at Kelowna Secondary School The families attending the Young Parents Program receive priority access to the YMCA child care centre, which is affordable and accessible for children of young parents continuing their education whether in secondary school, post-secondary, training program or community parents who are working. We believe that by offering this support the YMCA child care is contributing to the development of a strong family unit.
The child care centre is newly updated and located on the property of Kelowna Secondary School in a building separate from the school. The centre can accommodate 10 children from six weeks to five years old. It is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday year round.
